I see. I agree. Usually buy yearly iterations. But I often trade the prior year's in for credit. Spend a lot less on them.

I used to but now I sort of alternate around. Last year I skipped Madden and got NHL, this year I went MLB the Show. Next year I might do an NBA game. Probably not, though. I might skip a year for sports games again.

playing Deus Ex right now. Haven't gotten very far, just did the first Prague main story mission.

    - I constantly have to remember which buttons do what. This sounds silly but I could not remember how to holster my weapon and I couldn't figure out how to look that up. It's square + L2. I also get L3 and R3 mixed up, especially in the heat of the battle.
    - It took me awhile to figure out what to do for the first mission. You have to complete a side mission if you don't want to go through the front door and get shot at. I hated it because they take away your augs.

But anyway now that I have some augs back things should pick up

Honestly I can't remember too much about HR since I haven't played that game since it came out, but from what I remember yes it does. I think Prague is quite a well done hub, although it is fairly small and still a bit corridor-like. That said, I'm still very much in the game's first act.

FIFA is somewhat similar, although the slow increase in quality is more noticable and there was a decent jump from 360/PS3 to current gen. Also they are adding a story mode which actually looks somewhat interesting, if inevitably corny and lightweight like the NBA 2K ones. I didn't buy FIFA 16 which was the first I've skipped since FIFA 97, but I might pick it up this year.

Borderlands 2- Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode/Mechromancer- COMPLETE! Afterwards, i tried my luck at a lvl 74 Terramorphus- and he was actually invincible. i got him down a fragment of HP, then died, and when i jumped back in- i couldn't deal any damage. the health bar was flashing but not actually moving. when an entire clip of "1mildmg x6" Badaboom+ "650k amp dmg" Bee Shield not show any dmg on the bar- Terramorphus glitched, and was truly invincible.
going to fishing up Tiny Tina's DLC and contemplate attempting Digistruck peak.

Edit< Tiny Tina's DLC Complete... got "Jack's Mask" as my 'guaranteed legendary drop' :/
I may respec my Mechromancer, so my bot doesn't have any lasers, so that way when i summon him with the Love Thumper shield- he just goes full melee. I've done this tactic, and there were explosions aplenty when we went melee with the Thumper's ability active.

I am also playing Deus Ex Mankind Divided right now. I made the fatal error of replaying Human Revolution a few weeks ago. The reason that's bad is because it becomes very apparent how similar those games are. I'm maybe 2-3 hours in and already feeling burnt out on the game. My criticisms with HR are stressed with Mankind Divided so far. It's mostly little things but all the more aggravating that they didn't get them locked.
I'm playing the PC version but this is also a bit of a mess with a full keyboard. There's a thousand buttons and none of them are reused. Honestly the most maddening is you can press TAB to pull up the menu, but you have to press ESC to exit it. You can't hit TAB again to close it. Same with pressing M for the map, you have to press ESC to close anything. It's not intuitive and I get locked up on it every time. The quick menu has similar issues.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had this. I felt like I was doing a whole mission string, meanwhile I still didn't know what augs I had. At one point I jumped down a sewer and Icarus Landed. "Guess I have that?" Really bizarre way to open the game. Not to mention unnecessary. They couldn't have Jensen walk through another checkpoint and have sidequest later?

Other than Deus Ex I'm dumping hours in Hitman. I was skeptical of the game because of its release strategy, but more so because Absolution was such a steaming pile of garbage. I finally caved earlier this month and I'm absolutely loving it. Blood Money is one of my favorite games and this game is a true successor. I spent six hours replaying the first mission over and over, finding all the different ways you can complete the contract. The game rewards this type of ruthless replaying with the XP system that unlocks more tactics you can use in the level. I think they did a good job streamlining what made Hitman great. It's more approachable, less trial-and-error and focuses on what's fun about it.

I agree with the first bit. Because I was ill with nothing else to do I've put in 19 hours into Deus Ex already and it really is very similar in structure and form to Human Revolution. I haven't played HR properly since it came out so fortunately it doesn't feel stale for me, but it's definitely bringing back a lot of memories. Overall, however, I'm enjoying it. I've reached Act 2 and whilst the main story is a slow burner the side quests are generally very good and the gameplay is still as fun as ever, some minor quibbles aside.

I need to get Hitman, it looks so good. I don't actually know why I haven't since I loved Blood Money, although I still need to finish Doom, Deus Ex and The Witness so I'm not exactly short on things to play.

Well, that's good. Means that I will probably dedicate to Madden 17 when I decide to make my next purchase. Deus Ex will wait until I can get a used copy for cheap.

Getting burnt out trying to farm stuff in Borderlands 2 since completing UVHM. the Loot Midgets drop artifacts more than they drop legendaries or the rare pearlescent.
may just start the replay of the Pre-Sequel, or even Trials of Cold Steel before the sequel comes out next week.

The Witness is sitting in my backlog as well, but I could never get into the game. I thought the puzzles were impenetrable. The first few areas were fine, but once the game opens up and there's no real clue where you're supposed to go next I couldn't shake the feeling that I hadn't learned what I needed to be where I was. I kept looking things up on YouTube/message boards and it barely felt like I was playing the game. I was pretty disappointed with that.

Doom's pretty ok. GiantBomb hyped the hell out of it. I dunno if I'd call it "the best shooter campaign in years" as some have said, but I enjoyed it.

I want to make a confession and say I've been thinking about buying Madden for the first time since Madden 2005. I started watching <SPORTS!> in the past two years and now Los Angeles has a football team so I feel like this can be my entry point to be that guy who knows player names and stuff. Are the games actually any good? I bought FIFA two years ago and was pretty disappointed with the career options.

From Madden 2005 until 2017 I'm sure there have been tons of changes. Graphically especially. Some modes are different, but overall it's still a football game. Thing is EA realized quickly the cash cows it found in ultimate teams. That's where their money is made and spent. Tons of development in that mode. Personally, I HATE ultimate teams. It's nothing but a money grab, pay-to-win mode and I don't like it. I buy the games for the franchise mode. I don't even play online anymore because too many asshats.

Just my opinion. But if it's been 12 years since you bought one, you'll be happy with the investment.

Yeah, it is a well made game, I just find that if you buy it every 4-5 years you can actually appreciate it. The AI is dumb as nails but everything else about them is good. They've made a bunch of improvements since 2005 so you'd enjoy it, but it will feel familiar after the initial shine wears off.

Did you get to the boat? The map has the symbols on it which corresponds to whatever puzzle is learned in each area. I was getting stuck too but I found that made things somewhat easier as when I found a puzzle I couldn't do I could go to the corresponding area and it would sort of tutorialise it for me.

Frankly the genre has suffered from a dearth of great campaigns that I think the statement is not far off. Looking back at this genration I'm struggling to think of a FPS campaign that I've really enjoyed as much as some of the greats of the past. CoD:AW was not bad and I even managed to enjoyed Killzone in spite of it having a truly atrocious story, but they're hardly vintage. Far from it.

No idea about Madden, but for FIFA career mode has been so frustrating. It seems like EA has focussed a lot on Ultimate Team. Understandable business decision since it must make a gazillion dollars, but disappointing for me and I'm sure a lot of people who enjoy the other modes. I usually buy FIFA annually because it's pretty much the only game I play with friends regularly, but FIFA 16 was the first I've skipped since FIFA 97.

So I finished Deus Ex. Overall, I agreed with the general consensus in the reviews that I read pre-release: it's a very well made game if a bit too familiar with Human Revolution at times, let down by a very disappointing story. I won't spoil too much but it doesn't really explore many of the intriguing possiblilities it opens up, and most of the major choices are pretty inconsequential except perhaps one which definitely has what I'd call a preferable outcome.

Cleared OP1 in my Mechromancer game [Borderlands 2, fyi], and got an OP1 Fastball from Boll- 11.5mil damage up from a 10.2mil damage with a 72 Fastball.
    Midgets still aren't dropping anything.

Trials of Cold Steel 2 is out, but i'll be picking it up later this week.

*worthwhile. They've dropped Ancient Artifacts like an ethnic stereotype relinquishing control of an illegal narcotic substance when approached and acquiesced to surrender by local law enforcement.

Tried to run through the DigiPeak to obtain OP2, but died...

Wee! Finally playing some Trails of Cold Steel II. Played just about 6hrs of it. :)

    >Wee- i forgot about the difficulty spike the game likes to throw at you. first a stun-lock go-happy boss that i had to fight with just two character.
now i have to fight two bosses each with ~90k HP, whack me around for around 2k dmg [of a party average of 5k] and only take not even 2k per hit with my main frontliner [ie: Rean].
Time to go grinding... oh joy.

I can tell you I don't remember the game having a map. They were all about that seamless interface stuff. Which might be cool as a designer but for utility sake made it hard to get around.

Other updates: I've completely stopped playing Deus Ex Mankind Divided after a mere 6 hours (of a 20-25 hour game from what I hear). The game is so incredibly similar to the first one, which I replayed less than a month ago, that I've lost all eagerness to play another one of those. And again, a lot of the PC version quirks are annoying. Graphical glitches, TAB opens the menu but pressing TAB again doesn't close the menu. Don't want to mess with it right now.

On the other hand I have dumped a surprising amount of hours in Madden 17. The tutorials actually explain the concepts behind each play really well so I feel like I actually understand football. Even the normal difficulty is relatively challenging. Granted I went 14-2 with my Raiders team, but in these Playoffs games it's been really close. I'm feeling challenged and it's a new type of a game I haven't played before. Feeling like a good decision.

Finally got back into Morroblivion after having my tv being worked on for a couple weeks. I'm the master of the fighters guild, doing a few quests for the other three main guild. Story wise Im a few quests in, just finished the quest after Vivec informants

Trying to play Planescape Torment, not really sure how I'm feeling about it, out of the Mortuary, met my 3rd companion, there just seems like so much to do, I'm not used to being thrown into a giant hub this early in a game like this, so many people to talk to, so much to read, kind of overwhelming. Going to try and keep with it, but we'll see

    Blargh...
My most recent Vault in Fallout Shelter kept suffering bouts of failure when rushing producing. Need water? Rush @ 29%! Fail! *Radscorpion Infestation!* Damn scorpion goes through three rooms before it's finally killed, not before forcing me to use all my Stimpaks. Now we need power! Rush @ 31%! Fail! *Radscorpion Infestation!"
:bashhead: *thunk* repeat for several more rooms, until Power, Water, and Food are at critical levels...
spend a lot of money reviving slain Dwellers as the result of constant infestations. Pretty much all my attempts to sustain the vault failed constantly. Deleted.

    Next Blargh...
Playing through Trails of Cold Steel, and need to realized i need to save often. After some down time, i unequipped my party, and moved on with the story. Spoiler free, i needed to have my party equipped, but didn't save. So now i've got to replay through all the "downtime" story before getting on with the main story- and properly equip my party beforehand.
    Still, having fun.

Ive been going through more of Mirrors Edge Catalyst.
I feel like this game got even less attention than the 1st game which is really a bummer because I think its an awesome concept and art direction with mostly good gameplay.

I not sure if the game needed to be free roam though. Free roaming around the city is the exact same as playing missions just no ones chasing you. This lends to missions feeling kinda samey because you just did the exact thing youre doing in a mission to get to the start point of said mission. Mirrors Edge would be an amazing near perfect game if they told a really great sci-fi dystopian story through linear missions. It also feels eerie running around rooftops and lobbys and rooftop bars and not seeing people. Linear gameplay would allow for the population of the world to make it feel alive.

One thing thats hard to argue I think DICE has the best looking game engine out right now with Frostbite. It never stops impressing me.

Farming for the Zim in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, in my Lawbringer Ultimate Vault Hunter Game, to try to grind for better weapons. [lvl ~50 weapons, versus lvl ~60 enemies- not good.]
it's the easiest Legendary to farm for, versus fighting Ned or Iwajira.

I tried to play that game 2-3 times and abandoned it at that exact point each time. It's really impenetrable. Even the more modern versions of those games like Pillars of Eternity or Divinity have too much going on.

@Woozie Too much how? in terms of controls or gameplay, story?
