Thought I'd make a thread about this since it's about to pass Twitter in the number of users I think

What do you think so far

I downloaded it and deleted it, it's just not for me. The approach is unique, and I'm sure it'll catch on with most that have tried it, but for me it just isn't up my alley.

Seeing as how there are at least two stories here about a person hit by a car playing it and another who drowned while playing, I think I'm going to pass for now.

    Plus I never liked Pokemon.

Like the concept. If it were Yu-Gi-Oh! I'd be all up in that shit.

But hey, someone found out how to get the nerds out of the basement, inadvertently!

I have friends, but I won't play, it doesn't sound that fun, I imagine it will lose a lot of steam, the only reason it got this popular is it is free. If it was $10+ it wouldn't be doing as well.

I'm glad they went with the original 151 though, in my biased eyes it is the best set of Pokemon

    The battling sounds terrible.

I agree it will lose steam as it is currently. It is very difficult to evolve your pokemon. Also the only way to battle is to go to a gym. And the leader is probably someone that dumps money into the game and quickly advances that way. So unless you do that you'll probably not takeover a gym. I don't live within our usual walking route of a gym, I'd have to drive somewhere specifically.

I think it's a fun thing to do while on walks though

I'm playing it. The worst of it for me is connection issues at peak hours. If you're not already on then you'd SOL. Sometimes you do get lucky and can connect, but still. It's been quite a few days now and they know their player load. Shouldn't be super hard to add more servers for the game.

Aside from that, it's one part where you live and another part where you work. Yesterday I got an idea where most the gyms and pokespots are nearby so I can do something without having to walk or drive extra in my free time. If I did go hardcore on this and would spend most my free time on it, then I'd for sure need the car to get to more populated places before doing any legwork.

Another story about a 19 year old woman nearly abducted because she wasn't paying attention while playing this game. Yikes.

If I didn't have things to do all the time, I'd consider it. Sounds cool. I'm a big fan of GPS tracking, the idea of searching the real world but I just can't do it. Just leaving my house for anything other than work or scheduled obligations is a big pain.

like tom, i have too much going on in my life to put the necessary effort into the game. I like that they made it the original 150, because I only know a handful past those. Never owned a single game past red/blue.

I caught 3 in the parking lot at work and the other 4 were just as lazy.

Its not very fulfilling playing like that but its a great idea for a game. The commentary around has been funny enough and more enjoyable than the game itself.

This is why GW is dying.

I got the game last night and only caved because every single one of my other friends has it and wont shut up about it. I never liked pokemon even when it first came out and I was the perfect demographic for it. I never liked any of the Japanese monster franchises really. But I got this to have something to talk about and to see what all the hype is about. Its a cool idea, and at the moment its keeping my attention but I don't feel the need to go out searching for monsters and pokestops.
There's also a Pokestop at my office building so I can sit there all day getting supplies without having to leave my desk. It also helps that I work in the middle of downtown Chicago so I can see 4 gyms all within a block of me plus countless Pokestops. People also keep putting up modules on the pokestop next to my desk so I got a bunch of monsters today that way.

But yes unless they add some more features like the ability to battle other people in ways that are deeper than just flicking a ball at each other I can see myself and everyone else getting bored of this game within the next couple months. Its happened to me with Neko Atsume and Fallout Shelter. Mobile games are just too shallow to keep my attention.

You're lucky. I got nothing close to my house and even at work I need to walk 5 minutes to the nearest stop. I'm not complaining about walking, since I leave the building at lunchtime anyways, but my pokemon hunting is limited to going to work, any time I spend during lunch and coming home.

GW is dying because there is no reason for new people to come to the site since cheat codes are a thing of the past

Yeah, not having the time to play a mobile game that is predicated on spending a lot of time in it is not a reason the site is dying (and I'd argue it isn't dying anyway). It's not a casual game. The more time and money you're able to sink into it, the better you become. It's a typical pay-to-win game and I typically have no interest in those unless there is a casual component.

For example, I actually highly enjoy Monster Legends. It was slow moving at first. But I could log into that once or twice a day, collect coin, food and monsters and then step away. It's a timed thing: you get limited resources and food. You can pay for VIP monsters and extra resources, but it's not necessary (and the game actually provides a healthy dose of gems). The only thing I feel obligated to do is participate in wars with my team which requires having a healthy stock of legendary monsters at max level, which takes some time. But it's once every couple days and I do everything in about 20 minutes.

That's the type of mobile game I like.

Thats part of the reason but the other part is a lot of people have left either because they're bored or life stuff.

Chill, I was exaggerating. I just thought it was funny that one of the most insanely popular games in recent memory comes out and the thread on this site is full of people talking about how they're not playing it.

I've caught quite a few Pokemon, but very few of them have been worth keeping. My neighborhood is completely barren as far as PokeStops and Gyms go, unfortunately.

Catch anything that takes 12 candies to evolve for the sake of raising your trainer level. People generally agree that you should save your dustbin til your trainer level is 20. After that evolve top percentile cp pokemon and power those up. Case in point, I had powered up my Pidgeot some, but just a few days ago I evolved one of my eevees and got a 1010 vaporeon, which is like 300 higher than the powered up pidgeot.

Not playing since my iPhone 4S is a generation too old, but I've checked it out. I'll be honest, I get the nostalgia rush but it's buggy and honestly a bit dull after a short period of time.

Perhaps I'm just too cynical these days...

What do you mean by dustbin? Should I not transfer any pokemon until im level 20? I transfer any duplicates I have but I dont level or power anything up. I've just been collecting the stardust and candy.

I have been playing and really enjoying it. My issue is that it's a pretty embarrassing game to play at times. I don't want to be stood in the middle of a park with a group of kids trying to catch a Pokemon but the decent ones don't seem to be anywhere near the places I usually visit.

Ive hardly touched this game the past month. I think I opened it a few days ago when I was going for a walk during lunch so i could rack up some miles on my eggs but thats really it. Just as predicted I grew bored of the game after a month of playing. There's just no point to it.

I am going off it a little bit due to the fact that there's not enough rotation in terms of spawns. Eevee, Pidgey, Rattata, Weedle... that's pretty much all I see.

I think if there was more variety in what you can catch plus the ability to trade with people or fight people outside of gyms it would have kept my interest longer. I can only see so many birds and rats before I get bored.

As it turns out, Gamewinners crowd is ahead of the curve. FiveThirtyEight reports that Pokemon Go might just be a fad. It's not dropping off completely, but people are playing it less every day and the downloads are plummeting.

I also downloaded it to see what it was but didn't have much fun playing it. Going for walks is neat, but to what end? The battles are lame. If I'm just walking around and collecting stuff to collect stuff, then it's just a grinding game with physical activity. It's a novelty for people new to geoscoping and that explains the popularity but not an argument for why it's a good game.

I am proud to say I never even downloaded it. Nor did anyone in my household.

We held off the fad!

I view it as the same. I think it's a fun thing to do on walks and that's it. I'm already noticing the forced difficulty curve, it's taking more balls to capture them for no reason. Not much in my area. I still have yet to go to a gym because they are way above my level.
