If anyone is attending Pax West, i have gotten the Okay to volunteer at the Paizo area, gm'ing Pathfinder Friday and Sunday.

So, after surviving Pax West and gm'ing on Friday/Sunday, i get ready for my standard Thursday night game- only to find out that i may have left of my d20's at the convention. :(
it's an ivory white/sparkly blue with red numerals. Until i can find a replacement in the game shop's random die bin, i may have to retire the set. :( i can roll without some of the die, but not the d20.

Ever tried to launch a site only to run into problem after problem? Yeah, that's me atm...Finally got the site into a sort of finished state, but the domain name I picked turned out to be a blacklisted domain, so I've had to register two urls and park one on the other to ensure everyone could access the site. On the plus side, it's actually doing quite well so far, I'm only launching it today, but I've had a small team helping me test and finish building it, which is nice, and the activity levels are great with all of the members involved being quite talkative. Would be nicer without that damn blacklist hanging over the domain, but at least the site's finally going live :). Whoo! Don't want to draw focus from GW in any way, but if anyone feels like popping in: http://actavern.com or http://actavern.org

Otherwise, been a nice and uneventful few days, which is great. My sister had her 30th, which was a bit of fun...

I'm going to see Chrvches after work tonight in Providence. I've never been to a concert that doesn't constitute as some type of rock band (drums, guitars) so we'll see how this goes. I wonder if there will be any pasty, tall, thin, smelly guys with long hair that outnumber everyone else like at metal shows.

And I paid extra to have a seat in the balcony rather than floor because I'm old and want to sit.

So fun times with my larger child - we think its growing pains but starting Sunday night she has woken up screaming in her room claiming her left leg is hurt. She couldn't stand up or put weight on it. It was so bad Monday night that my wife took her to the ER to be safe (on her birthday no less) to have x-rays and tests, all negative. After 6 hours the doctor said he thinks its growing pains and she might have to stay longer for observation unless she could walk. So because she wanted to leave, she just got up and left the room. My wife was furious and we had to pay $200 for the visit because she was so dramatic.

She pulled that crap again last night and kept us up all night but we made her go to daycare and said sit in the corner if you can't stand up.

Half hour into the day she was up laughing and playing with friends.

    Children are liars and expensive.

I just found out that a local brewery is doing Oktoberfest on Saturday so me and a bunch of people are going. It's an all day thing with German food, games, music and they are rolling out their special beer.

It's kind of cool because the brewers are from Germany and their beer is legit. I think I'll ride my bike to it since its only 5 miles away.

Also, Chvrches was awesome. Their entire backdrop was a light show and it blew me away. Even huge production bands can't compete with what they did. Great mix and great performance. Will see them every time they come around here from now on.

Posting this from my MacBook Pro, which I last turned off on 24 December 2011.

Man, it's like a time machine. OS X 10.6.6, Firefox 9, music and TV from 5 years ago. Found some photos that I'd neglected to transfer too.

In all honesty, I've now experienced this with my two children. It really could be growing pains. It's so painful they can't move, then eventually the muscles relax. I think of it like a charlie horse.

Doesn't mean you're wrong though. Both my children are perpetual lying money launderers.

Just thinking it's possible both are true. :link:

She's doing the every other night waking up screaming right now and then she's magically better at daycare when her friends get there.

My wife and I just left her in our bed and went to sleep in her twin bed. At least we couldn't hear her but it was so cramped.

My niece is a spoiled brat compared to her sister.

That said, i attended a small local "gaming convention" and played in two Pathfinder sessions and ran one. In the last session i played, we were in the middle of a giant golem fighting a giant snake monster and while the two fighters, and my tank of a dino distracted the lashing tails, my halfling was pretty much running around healing people.

I quit it because at work I got another laptop but I never liked it nearly as much. I think with Windows 10 & modern laptops the gap is closer but back then (2012) I found most of the Windows stuff to be clunky. And no trackpad has ever matched the one on my MBP, except perhaps the new force feedback one.

The only sticking point is the 2GB RAM, which even back then was stingy for a pro machine. Luckily, it's user replacable and the machine can support 8. Likewise, the mechanical HDD is a bit old hat but it's not really that bad for general use. If I do upgrade the RAM I will probably get El Capitan (it doesn't support Sierra) since apparently it runs well on my machine and some apps don't support Snow Leopard any more. Funnily enough, Firefox ended support just 3 days before I turned it back on.

So I've started a "diet" of sorts this week and I'm excited for it. My wife wants to eat better so I'm joining her. More just us eating more healthy foods and getting rid of snacks. I'm at the heaviest point I've been in my life and don't like it. I'm currently around 225 lbs. It doesn't look bad since I'm really tall, but when I played hockey every week I was at 198 and felt amazing. I feel a bit cumbersome right now. Biking has stabilized it but my diet is not great.

So today, I'm making fish tacos! Can't wait. I'm compiling shopping lists for more organic ingredients and increasing vegetables and fruit while nixing most process foods.

Also, I've started logging my beverages and my normal workday consists of only water, between 72 and 84 oz per day.

    I can do this!

Heh. I did something similar a couple months ago with my 2007 Macbook Pro. It was running OSX Leopard and I was looking at old bookmarks and photos and files. It was like going back in time to college.

My day was tiring. Had to get up at 4:30am to go to the Hospital with my mom so she could get her hip replaced. Her joint was bone on bone and grinding. Surgery took about 2 hours and the doctor sounded really optimistic and was saying she'd be released the next day. Everything went well and my mom is just dealing with some general soreness, but I'm hoping that doesn't stick around too long. She's been without health insurance for so long its relieving to have her finally get all these operation and check-ups she should of had 8 years ago. At this point my face hurts its so tired. Have you ever been so tired your eyes feel sore, because thats me right now and I dont know how or why im still awake.

That eye soreness is terrible. I hate when I reach that point. Good luck with all that with your mom.

Been a pretty good day so far. Today's my bday, and while I absolutely loathe them, this one's been alright. My sister bought me a dual monitor desktop stand, and an additional monitor so I can finally have the setup I've wanted for a long time. The new monitor now makes my old one look terrible, but I couldn't be happier with the increased productivity now that I don't need to jump back and forth between IDE and browser to test code, just code, save and refresh a little off to the right. Perfection.

    Happy belated birthday, Apollo!

I got to see Blind Guardian in Omaha with my brother the Thursday before last. We were at the very front and center, which was pretty awesome. The only downside to being that close was the sound quality, mainly that Hansi's vocals and Andre's lead guitar were too low, and they didn't seem to adjust it much during the show. But that's not as big of a deal when you know all the songs and can sing along most of the way. Plus I've experienced them from the back with perfect sound the last two times I saw them, so I was fine with being up front this time around. When they came out on the stage to start the show Hansi walked right up to me and shook my hand. I also got a guitar pick from Marcus at the end; he tossed it to the people on my right, but it fell through all their hands and landed on the stage in front of me, so I was able to get it. Overall a fantastic show from one of my favorite bands.

The crowd was great, except for one guy. About halfway through the opening band's set (Grave Digger), this large obnoxious guy pushed his way to the front right next to me. He was your stereotypical metal head with long hair, sleeveless shirt, and large nose ring. His body odor was pungent. He was being obnoxious and was likely very drunk. He had no sense/respect for boundaries and was constantly leaning into me to get closer to the band. But every time I looked at him, he had an enormous grin on his face. He was just so happy. After Grave Digger was done, he left to go smoke, and someone more reasonable took his spot next to me. During Blind Guardian the obnoxious guy was behind my brother and between songs he would yell out song titles that he wanted to hear. Other than him, everyone else was great and really into the show without being obnoxious or annoying.

That sounds awesome. I've never pushed to the front of a show before because I get claustrophobic but I'd like to someday if I could muster up the courage. The closest I've ever been were in really small shows, Amon Amarth I was about 10 feet from the stage, Kamelot on the Ghost Opera tour I actually grabbed a small seating area right next to the stage and at one of the Rush shows I had tickets in the 9th row. There was also a metal festival one year where Gamma Ray played at 2am on Monday morning so most of the crowd left and I was just standing up front with 20 other people. Kai Hansen talked to us pretty much individually, so it was cool.

The funniest one was in some basement show, Edguy headlined and there were maybe 120 people at the show. The ceilings were low over the crowd so when he said something and everyone cheered, I pumped my fist and hit the ceiling, causing a few lights to wave a little. Tobias pointed at me and gave me a thumbs up.

More recently, if a show has a balcony or mezzanine, I sit there.
