Cleared the 3rd Palace, it's a rather small yet expansive dungeon- only three save rooms. lots of phy-resist enemies- you've been warned.

To those who haven't played Persona 5 yet, but have played the others- there's some new magic, and some returning magic.
Frei aka Nuclear aka non-elemental has made a return from the first persona game, and is more effective against enemies afflicted by physical status ailments [ie: frozen, shocked, et al]
Psi is another non-elemental damage type that is more effective against mental afflictions [ie: fatigue, dizziness, et al]
Curse and Holy magic now have damage spells rather than just insta-kill spells.

Also, Status Ailments are a bit more prominent in the game, and i'm am using them to my advantage. Be very happy that Ann start with Dormina, and Ryuji get Headbutt that has a chance to inflict forgetful.
Making enemies unable to attack is key to surviving difficult fights.
I want to create a Psi-damage master persona. Inflict a mental ailment, like Sleep or Fatigue, then blast them with Psio spells.

    Guess That Arcana![/B]

So I just got a small freelance project that I don't really want to do but it should be easy. I priced it at a net cost of $60 (its probably not worth that either) solely to get Persona. They agreed to the cost so I might order it today on Amazon since I have prime and can get it for $48.

Well, the 4th Palace is something else. i'm not saying much else, aside from i'm going to complete this Palace asap.

One thing i wish they'd change is- if you complete a Palace at least a week before the actual deadline, the story wraps up in relation. I don't like the whole "wait and see" after clearing a Palace.

Also, after clearing Palace 3 and starting Palace 4, i'm ashamed to say i've finally started Yusuke's Social Link. I started his S.Link after starting Makoto's S.Link, which could only be started after clearing palace 3 and having Rank 2 intelligence.

Lastly, anyone know where i can boost my Kindness? Outside of movies, reading, and caring for your plant, i have no idea.

    One More Thing!
Read the backgrounds of the teams' persona. Surprisingly, their information becomes relevant- in Pop Quizzes.

So I totally thought Yusuke was a girl when I saw pictures of the main characters in promotional artwork and battle videos...I even have his ps4 theme installed, thought was a girl..nope, its a guy...

Thanks for the heads up @Sigs Minock

I only know kidness and movies at the moment as well...I feel like there was one conversation where I got a boost

Oh there is also a drink on sundays at the smoothie station in the underground walkway area or somewhere near that area in Shibuya, it costs 5k but you get a different boost each week

Woefully underprepared for the second castle boss. I was a slither from victory once but most of the time the RNG gods are against me.

Fourth Palace cleared a full two weeks before the deadline... just advance the damned story, please. At least i'm not getting pestered by my party to go to the Palace. So i've been busy ranking up my Confidant Levels.

Also, fair warning- a few of the Mementos requests you get, require you get part-time jobs.

Got the second palace done. I gave up and got a few more items, and paid more attention to statuses. Still needed a bit of luck though. It's the first time I've really been challenged by the combat on Normal difficulty.

Okay, there's a day job that boosts your kindness- the flower shop inside the underground mall, don't know when it becomes available- but other than books and movies, it's the most reliable Kindness booster.

Also, when you get Ryuji's S.Link up high enough, he'll get the Insta-Kill ability- that as long as he is an active member, you could instantly kill any shadow you ambush. probably when they're of a lower level. If you have any open Persona slots, you get a free mask. No XP though.
I've been farming persona in Mementos. I still need to get a damned Mandrake [death, 3]...

Speaking of Mementos, make sure you have plenty of lockpicks available, especially if you go in during Torrential Rain. I had to leave several locked chests while running through Mementos, because i ran out. And i didn't have enough stuff to craft the"eternal lockpick" [story unlock].

    on a random note:
Fuuka's persona trapped her in a bubble while she provided support in Persona 3. Rise's persona had a satellite for a head and shoved her head into a Virtua-Boy, in Persona 4.
Persona 5's support persona is a UFO.

You can also boost kindness by eating steak at the diner.

Hope you all are using the vending machine by the bathhouse, every monday there are 4 sp items for only 100 yen each, granted they only add 5sp, but it adds up over time and its dirt cheap

There's two more SP drinks on the left hand side vending machine in the school courtyard.

The Arcade has two as well, both school and arcade cost 300 a pop for 5sp heal, I get them sometimes, but not as often depending on how much cash I have

    Mementos during "adverse weather situations"
Heat Wave: Random shadows are already on fire. [garu/frei skills for added damage]
    Pollen Warning: Shadows are asleep
Torrential Rain: Larger floors, more shadows, higher chance of locked chests, decent odds of a Treasure Shadow showing up as a second encounter.

Summer break beach visit paid homage to Persona 3's Babe Hunt, except without the Junpei awkwardness.

into the game now, thoughts so far.

Igor's voice is jarring. It doesn't match his visual representation, I feel. He does not look like a baritone.

I always forget (until I start playing and remember from past experiences) how many mechanics this series throws at you all at once, at the first dungeon ("palace"). Every time I get overwhelmed initially by all the stuff I have to remember, even just in combat, forget exploring. And they've added even more stuff. I really wish it was more gradual.

I am probably alone in this thought because it is cool looking but there are times I wish the UI was "normal" and not always the diagonal bold look. Like when I am quickly scanning.

Hate that the signs are in Japanese and I can't find my way as easily (like in the school)

For once in my life I am playing this game on easy, was a pretty quick decision with having a newborn and reading some of the stuff in here. I managed to get to the treasure of the first palace in one night but it was very difficult, had to restart multiple times

    Speaking of restarting...

Atlus, all I have ever wanted is the ability to restart the game during battle without a hard reset. Actually, that and having a game over NOT occur if the protagonist dies! Why on earth is that still a thing. It's suuuper dumb! So yeah please change those two things and I'll be happier.

I know it sounds like I am complaining a lot but I enjoy the game, each Persona gets more and more polished. These are the things that stick out though

I guess Japanese only text is more authentic, but it is a bit of a maze at first. But the school is pretty small and you get fast travel to the important bits anyway.

I probably could have got to the treasure on the first night too but I was too liberal with my SP usage at the start and it just got too much. Although if I'd known there was an SP item off the gauntlet bridge that would probably have been enough. One day missed shouldn't matter too much though.

I agree on the game over stuff. It's just lame.

Just beat the second palace. The boss would have been super tough had I not got lucky with the Persona I had. It has multiple parts, a few of which are weak to a certain attack, and I created the Persona for the 2nd Strength requirement, luckily he had an attack that has an attack that damaged most of the parts. He was also level 19 and I was only 16.

Finally formed the Fortune & Tower Confidant deals; Fortune requires 100,000 Y to start, and Tower won't open until after Palace 4 and summer break- then both require additional visits and trips to Mementos.
Speaking of Mementos- keep an eye out for ATM's each floor, they can be "stolen" for some interesting loot.

I'm missing a couple Confidant deals, Empress & Hanged, and i have a feeling that both are the last members that will join the Phantom Thieves/NoRest4Wickd. I may have a few more i'm missing, but i think those are the last two i'm missing... unless there's the Aeon Confidant link...

Anyway, prepping for a school trip to Hawaii...

I just finished the third castle and just paid the ¥100,000. Because I'm totally new to the series I looked at a guide for some general tips before starting out and it said to save money, so I've bought very little and done a lot of negotiating for ¥. I had about ¥30,000 to spare if I recall correctly.

His much do you get through negotiations? I feel like a normal battle can hit around 1000

It depends. I can sometimes get ¥2/3k if the enemy is a higher level (20). Often less than that though. Helping Toranosuke Yoshida and ranking up Sun gets you an ability to demand more money.

Confusing an enemy is also good since they can drop money. Again, I've sometimes got a few thousand although it's mostly much less.

It's not hard to achieve though. In clearing the third palace, without negotiating much or grinding at all, I made about ¥120k including sold treasure and the boss fight. I also don't spend much on items - between palaces 2 and 3 I only bought the SP drinks. Useful because the maid is very expensive but is well worth getting.

Yep, just got the to the maid,
I knew something was up since her face wasn't shown, I was expecting it to be Makoto actually, nice surprise when I saw it was your teacher, I figured she'd be a social link, I also figure she had a freakier/hotter side than her teacher portrait hinted at

I've gotten 5g from a monster, then pressured it twice more [when you get that ability] for a net total of 15,000+ Y. Granted, this was in palace 5.

Speaking of the maid, when you get her rank high enough, she'll make you coffee or even do laundry [ie: clean the tarnished armors you find]... very useful, so you're not wasting time sitting at the laundromat.

That said, I've barrelled through Palace 5, and the newest party member is pretty useless at the level she joined the party. Ma/Psio and Triple Shot are her offensive abilities, her support abilities are meh- makakarn and something else... Considering Makoto has Ma/Freila and two AoE attacks, the newest character is pretty useless.
Speaking of useless, after forming the Tower link, you get the "chance to engage in a gunfire free-for-all" ability- and it doesn't do that much damage.

"Public Executions" are nice to get rid of Persona for something entirely random- i've gotten Valkyrie and Grimhelka (?) at lvl 44 when i was only 39/40.
Keep items with "transmutation" in the descriptor, as you do get the ability to turn persona into either skill cards or unique items. I got a [+2 All Stats/+Bless] accessory from a Treasure shadow.

Just got a notification that my game has been delivered. I might not start it today because I had to save in the middle of two important story missions in Horizon that I'd like to get back to. Not sure yet.

4 day weekend and was off sick today. Managed to put in a hour...or 20.

I'd probably wait in that case. P5 is a bit of a slow-burner at the start.

The most recent Persona games tend to start off slow.

That said, finished Palace 5, and i can see the story really taking off. Things are going to get interesting... Fool and Magician are both rank 9, and they're story progressed...

Just done palace 4. A tough one to beat in one night, especially that last fight where I had basically no SP. But the boss fight was really easy. I find that single targets are always much easier.

Finally got my Guts to rank 4 [Dauntless] so i can start the Hanged Man S.Link- the Airsoft Shop Owner. Then I remembered one more arcana- The World, I have a feeling that after the Fool arcana finishes up, it'll become the World arcana- sort of like in Persona 3.
All stats, except for Kindness is rank 4... and i need rank 4 kindness to progress the Hermit S.Link.

Also, I can't find Mishima/Moon anywhere after the school trip... Is the Moon arcana time locked?

Lastly, giving people gifts when not ranking up their S.link is a total crap shoot. I have no idea what anyone would like, and that all the gifts cost thousands of Yen, and i'm not going to spend money one a guessing game, to get better progression. I gave Ann a plushie, and she didn't care for it...

Well, October has been a month of Ups and Downs: Exams, story development, some hilarity at the School Festival.

That said, Palace 6 5 has opened up, and I've found Mishima- he likes to wander around the map.

    Palace 1:
    Castle
    Palace 2:
    Museum
    Palace 3:
    Pyramid
    Palace 4:
    Space port
    Palace 5:
    Casino
