With how crazy this offseason has been, I'm amazed we haven't had an offseason thread yet! I don't even know what the biggest news is: Chip blowing up Philly, Sean Payton doing the same in New Orleans, San Francisco imploding/retiring, Rex Ryan going to the Bills, etc.

As a Chiefs fan, this is honestly the best offseason I've seen from us in a while. Lots of guys got restructured (especially Hali!), and we finally addressed a major position of need with a big-name free agent (Maclin). In addition, trading for a former Pro Bowl guard will be incredibly helpful for our line. I'm hoping we go after a tackle in the first round of the draft, followed by a receiver in the second round.

This offseason has been pretty disastrous for the Browns. "Textgate", Manziel checking into rehab, the OC writing up a 30 page memo on why the Browns should let him go, talk of micro-managment by the owner and team president, losing a bunch of free agents because no one wants to play here, not being able to sign any free agents because no one wants to play here, signing Josh McCown to way too much money to be Manziel's bitch-boy.

4-12 or 5-11 here we come.

I feel so sorry for the Browns. It's almost like they will never be good again.

Anyways, Packers had a status quo off season, and that's the best way to do it.

Not until they get a new owner at least. Rumor is that owner wanted Manzel, GM wanted Bridgewater

And one of the funniest parts: you guys sign Bowe.

No. What's funny (and sad) is that we've got local sports radio people trying to stay positive by stating that Bowe has experience and that him and Hartline are an improvement over what we had last season. If Brian Hartline is an improvement over Miles Austin, I will eat my dog's food.

They shouldn't have drafted a QB in the first place... at least not in the first round. We really could have used an extra offensive lineman and wide receiver last season.

    Bye Revis and Browner. :(

I enjoyed a solid defense for one year. Back to the garbage pile we go.

Knowing how much money Suh got from the Dolphins, kinda glad the Lions didn't try and keep him

Fairley's gone too, though, and Ngata can't fill in both holes. Oh well, it was nice having a decent defense for one year anyway

@The Eye in the Sky! ...at least we got Butler? That might mean...more than nothing.

But we still have Kyle Arrington.

Logan Ryan looked bad this year and Alfonzo Dennard is streaky. If they don't trade or try to draft CBs then it will be a long year watching that defense.

So, Darren Sharper is going to prison for 9 years for sexual assault. Apparently, he drugged and raped them while they were unconscious. If you're a retired NFL All-Star and you have millions of dollars, why would you need to resort to sexual assault?
I'm sure there are were plenty of women out there just waiting for him to welcome them in...

9 years is way too short a sentence.

w.r.t. the panthers offseason most of the dozens of panthers fans are up in arms about how we havent signed any big name free agents. to be honest it just feels nice to have any cap space to work with at all. oher and ginn were good short-term signings, and the draft is deep at wide receiver and offensive lineman this year, which are both dire needs for the panthers. they always seem to be

He pleaded guilty which would explain the shorter sentence. The real punishment is being labeled a sex offender for the rest of his life. People don't want to be around sex offenders. People don't want to hire sex offenders.

the real punishment would be rotting away in jail. Some people do not care if you are labeled a sex offender if you are rich

Nobody is going to rot in jail for a sex offense unless the person died. The punishment wouldn't fit the crime.

if you are 40 and you get 20 years, you are leaving at 60. he will be out before he hits 50. He keeps a lot more of his youth this way, not rotting

In this day an age with our medical advances, 10 years doesn't mean much... especially if you're rich.

I still think that being labeled a sex offender is a big deal, rich or not.

he would be a sex offender even if he didn't plead. I don't see how shaving 10 years off the sentence constitutes a good punishment. He would not have had this deal had he not been a professional athlete

I didn't say 10 years as opposed to 20 is a good punishment. I'm just saying that being labeled a sex offender for eternity is the worse punishment. They're not going to vote him into the Hall of Fame after this. He's not going to get a book deal after this. And if he's dumb enough to drug and rape women, he's probably not too bright with his money either which means he'll end up more broke than Mike Tyson.

You don't know that. People say this all the time about celebrities. "Oh, because he/she is rich or is a celebrity, they got special treatment." How do you know that most other non-celebrities and non-rich people wouldn't get the same deal in a similar situation? You don't, because you don't hear about it in the national media like you do with celebrities. I guarantee if this was some random Joe Nobody, this wouldn't even be a topic for discussion.

That's because random Joe Nobody would get 30 years

But its like, who even cares about Darren Sharper enough to give him that leeway

He hasn't played in four or five years, and since then he's been doing TV work I guess but nobody cares about that.

He played on defense, which is already a strike against his fame, and he only played long-term for one team, the Packers. I highly doubt those involved in his sentencing were Packer fans during his time there, who enjoyed his time there and would like to think he's redeemable or something. I highly doubt all of that.

Its more likely that Sharper, thanks to his amassed wealth, was able to afford a more efficient legal team that was able to lower the sentence as much as they did, something Joe Nobody would be unable to afford.

I was equating fame with the money to do what you said. Thanks for clarifying

That is different and actually makes more sense than prosecutors giving him a shorter sentence simply because he's a rich celebrity. It's just like O.J. Simpson's murder trial. The dude was able to afford the best possible attorney capable of poking holes in accusations while make the prosecutors, investigators, and witnesses look like complete fools, and he got away scot-free.

Patriots going to trade out of the first round. What odds would you place on that?

So as an ESPN employee I feel bad for as yet not having mention Tim Tebow joining the Eagles, not that he is going to play.

Draft being tomorrow was something I had completely forgotten as well.

Browns will trade up for Mariota and will probably trade too much for him.
