Ha ha haha. Guess i can pick up my copy of Trials of Cold Steel 2 without any hassle.
That's literally all I can think of at this point.
What are the odds that this turns out to be a massive failure? I think it will sell okay, but not where they need it to after 10 years of developing.
I have a couple of Thoughts about this
Like overall, okay whatever. I didn't preorder and I didn't reserve time off work (though I'm hearing about people that did and can't cancel their vacation time so this super sucks for them).
But also they made a huge press conference about the release date. It's like marketing isn't talking to the devs and that NEVER bodes well. Do you guys remember, they even had that clock that initially showed late November but then the "real" date rewinded for September at the conference?
Also the time of year isn't as good, they are missing Black Friday in the US and will have to compete with more games. Sales might drop a little because of this.
Ultimately on the one hand I'm okay with a delay if the game is more polished. But on the other hand y'all had years to work on this thing. It's grating and I'm nervous about it
Right now my plan is to get Deus Ex and Last Guardian to tide me over. Possibly Darkest Dungeon
I'm okay with this as it allows me to see what Sony is doing with the Neo
oh right, I forgot about that. Yep the timing is suspect, they are definitely working with the Neo.
I guess tomorrow we will get a new 30 minute clip?
If you're still looking forward to the game, be very careful: Two separate leaks from about 5 months ago have gained a large amount of credibility based on the intro (Chapter 0 or whatever) of XV being confirmed.
Here's the gameplay video Square promised:
It feels weird hearing a song like Stand By Me in a Final Fantasy game. Though truthfully, everything about this feels weird... and I'll just leave it at that.
here's my play by play commentary (watch the clip first obviously)
0:10 damn haven't heard that song in awhile
0:37 wow that VA breathing
2:33 I can tell I'm going to hate Prompto so much he reminds me of Tidus
2:50 hahaha why the fuck does Ignis stay in the car? He needs to be in there to keep it in neutral?
3:51 slight delay in VA reacting to each other...not natural at all
5:00 god Cindy is so obviously just a sex object, I feel like Square hasn't listened to the trends going on over here at all (diversity and women as more than, well sex objects) also her name should have been Cidney
12:44 good tutorial
15:57 hahaha he literally said "varmints"
19:18 WHAT DID I JUST HEAR
22:58 ahhhhh D: D:
24:50 are they trying to hide? That car really sticks out
27:00 okay that looks like a cool fight
29:15 I don't like how they changed how Noctis looks, I think he looks dumb now
31:58 you know if I wanted to disappear I wouldn't use my cell phone constantly
33:43 holy shit is that a beginning enemy?
33:41 okay cool so we will need to go to different tombs or something to get the abilities
37:00 this place looks cool to explore
38:25 I'm hoping there's not going to be a lot of QTEs to keep track of...
40:19 I really appreciate them putting Wait Mode in there, I think that will help me a lot.
41:25 what is he wearing T_T
43:08 oh great I hate racing I hope it's not Sun Sigil-level hard
43:50 wouldn't be an RPG without fishing
47:00 his nickname is Iggy D:
51:30 nooo please don't do the Cloud thing
A lot of this is the same from the demo, I'm looking forward to seeing a different area eventually.
I'm honestly not sure that I would be surprised with anything at this point.
Did anyone see the new trailer they just released? ...It actually made me want the game. I'd been giving it a superficial look and just scoffed at it being a boy band simulator, I still sort of do, but seeing some actual content that relates to the story rather than just 4 sharp dressed dudes driving around fighting monsters sort of hyped me.
They also had a voice actor trailer and it gave a little more look into some of it and it looked good.
I just know it. I'm going to wait until reviews come out (from some trusted sources, not IGN, Polygon, Gamespot, etc) and if it gets decent feedback, I'm going to buy it. God damn you, Final Fantasy.
Honestly, after 15 years in production, FFXV and FFVII Remake are probably SE's last hope with this franchise. They have to get these right. They've made clunkers (by their standards) since FFX and it's no surprise given the fact they've gotten completely away from what made the series great in the first place (I'm shocked they still haven't put this together; getting with the times is one thing, but to get completely away from what made you unique and not even try to go back? Seems pretty folly to me). I don't think FFXV is going to do as well as they are hoping, but given the rabidity of the FF fanbase, it'll still sell. Then it will leave it up to the FFVII Remake. Which they cannot possibly screw up unless they completely change (because let's face facts, things are changing) the story, gameplay and structure of the game.
Honestly, I wouldn't be opposed to Square just making remakes from now on.
I'm okay with that, too. VI, VII, VIII and IX are very good games. Depending on the success of VII Remake (and the success/failure of XV), you may see that.
Eventually I'd want something new
The caveat is, if XV is a bad game (and it's entirely possible), it will have been a mistake 10 years in the making. If it takes them 10 years to make XVI and it's another boiled over XV, I'd rather see VI, VIII and IX remade instead.
I think they misunderstood the idea behind being able to play as other members of the party...
That's really dumb and completely unsurprising. In previous games, if the main character was gone, you'd get to control another one. Even in FF13!
There are a lot of things I really don't like about XV, strictly because it's a FF game. If this were just an RPG called Noctis' Story or something, I'd be raving about its graphics, story and gameplay. But the second a FF name is attached, I have expectations, and each is being whiffed on (except graphics, and I'll reserve story until I play it). Party switching, finding party members, active time battles, airships, side quests, 100's of hours of gameplay, etc., are all part of it. So far, I'm not seeing much of that. (I'm not even delving into gripping storytelling and compelling characters, those have been documented about this emo boy band group so far).
I'm still excited about the game, but I'm going into it telling myself it's not FF, just to not let my expectations ruin my judgment.
Eh, its been 15 years since the last true turn based FF game so I've just accepted that this is what FF is. I have no problems calling it a FF. I have a bigger problem with what the series has become.
Me too, but that's why I am not calling it a FF. If I do, the expectations of FF1-10 creep in and the disgraces that were 12 and 13 seep in.
I'm not surprised. It's KH y'all
At least they haven't tried to fundamentally change what makes Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts...
They should make KH turn based in the next installment just to troll everyone.
I would respect SE for doing that.
I loved XII, awesome game, didnt' really feel like a Final Fantasy game, but still a good game
Here is a polygon preview, got me pumped
That was a nice read. Definitely making me think more about getting it.
I will still be waiting for all the reviews and user reviews to come out before I make a choice. I HOPE its good. I really do.
it's too bad the characters are going to suck
like I can already tell this will probably be something of a XII for me, great gameplay but characters I'm not into, except at least FFXII had Balthier and Basch.
(despite that I am looking forward to the remake, I'll just not have Ashe, Penelo, or Vaan in my party).
I am also worried they are going to pull a FFXIII with the side characters. Remember Jihl? Hyped as a villain but never went anywhere, you never confronted her. I literally don't even remember the others' names except Cid and that's only because it's Cid.
Edit: And I REALLY wish they kept Noctis's old design. He looked so much more memorable compared to now.
I'm concerned about only having the four of them for 100 hours. FF to me always had at least 6 or 7 characters to switch between and really delve into each's story. FF7 was epic for it's unique stories of each character. Even 13 for its shortcomings, had great interwoven stories. FF15 has only four characters. If even one of them sucks, you are stuck with him for the entire game and can cause issues (rather than replace them; kind of like Irving in FF8 for me).
I'm excited for the game, but I have no illusions of grandeur either. There are going to be things I really hate. Other things I really love. If I get 100 hours of enjoyment...
I am so, so glad I didn't have to use Snow
Honestly, I liked Snow's story best...
It was Hope I couldn't stand. The story was good, but the execution was awful. He was worse than Vaan in my opinion, and that was tough. Sucks because he was a very valuable party member.
Lightning was boring, Sazh was very sad in the story (and a terrible party member), Fang was boring, and Vanille was so overly sexualized it wasn't funny (even her attacking groans were sexual, and the way they made Sazh fawn over her...).
Not saying it was a good game. It wasn't. But I still don't understand how people liked 12 more. The combat in 12 was the worst of any FF game. Maybe it's just because I've not played it in a long, long time?
Separate names with a comma.
