I just inadvertently joined the Brotherhood of Steel and in the vertibird trip you take it made me realize maybe the Fallout 4 map isnt so small after all but that the map display is horribly proportioned. But yeah you can still sprint from one end to the other in just a few minutes but there's enough in between to keep it interesting.

    Just finished my Jordyn playthrough.

Sided with the Institute. Had to destroy the Brotherhood and Railroad (which was anticlimactic after destroying the Hindenburg... but whatever). So I'm not all that thrilled with that ending. But I'm going to take a short break, probably finish up my CoD campaign, then start a new FO4 game (with a male name Fuckface just for fun... thank you Codsworth!) At which time I'll do all side quests, collectibles, etc.

    Overall, I enjoyed it.

I'm a couple weeks like. Whenever I have an issue with a game on PC or want to make sure it runs properly on modern OS' I always check PCGamingWiki. They have a massive database of games on PC with all sorts of information on what's compatible, how to get games to work, where you can get older PC games online legally, and mods that help games run better or look better. It's the way to go. For Fallout 3: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Fallout_3

Side note: Just found out that the physical copy of Fallout 4 is basically just the Steam Loader and has no game data on it. Very lazy... also very inconvenient to those with shoddy internet connections. Guess I'll just wait til the release a version that isn't complete bullshit.

It's stabilized itself now and I didn't do anything.

Standard practice, Skyrim was like that and it's over 4 (wow!) years old.

A couple days ago I encountered my first game altering bug. It doesnt break the game but it makes it a little annoying.

I leveled up the pack mule (name?) perk that allowed me to carry 25 extra lbs. Before leveling I could carry 330lbs, after leveling Pipboy still said I could only carry 330lbs and said I was over encumbered but it still allowed me to run carrying 345lbs out of 330lbs. So I quit the game and reloaded. Now my Pipboy says the correct weight of 355lbs max carry weight but when I try to trade with a settler or someone else it shows my weight as 330lbs. I also still get an over encumbered message even though I can run. ALTHOUGH sometimes the over encumberance seems to kick in and I have to walk for 10 seconds before I can run again.
Really the worse part about it is that the last save I have before I leveled up was 4 hours back and I had completed an entire side-quest line in those 4 hours.

Leveling up that perk (which i think is actually called Strong Back, iirc; they just make a reference to you being part pack mule in the description), allows you to run while overencumbered (at level 2, or 3, can't remember if it's a 3 or 4 level perk, but it's the second to last level). The last level in that perk allows you to fast travel while overencumbered. The numerical idiosyncrasy may be because of gear/equipment changes (like chems or alcohol wearing off). If a gear has STR on it, for example and you take it off, it'll change how much you can carry.

Basically, at full Strong Back perk, you can run and fast travel while overencumbered, basically never having to worry about how much you're carrying.

Hey... is it Thanksgiving yet? Do I still have time to get the game?

You resisted to prove a point, that I'm convinced of. It lived up to its hype and overall was a good game. If you chose to not partake, that was your problem. ;)

Turns out you were right. I misread the perks and after seeing level 2 Strong back gave 50lbs to carry cappacity I just assumed the next level was more weight.

You know, I did, too, at first, assuming that each level gave another 25 lbs. of carrying capacity, along with the other perks (running and fast traveling). It wasn't until I neared the end of my first playthrough that I realized it only gives a total of 50 extra lbs. then basically removes the penalties for being overencumbered. It is still annoying to either be crawling or running, so you still have to dump off your crap...

Anyway, glad to be of help for a change.

Good GDC talk about the development of the game, the artwork and how they translated Boston into the Fallout world. More technical at the start but at about 28 minutes they start talking about design and it gets more interesting.

Ive finally come back to this game after several months and started blazing through the main quest and resisting the urge to manage settlements.

I decided to side with the Institute and fight the BoS, which is fine because they were kinda dicks anyways but im still not a huge fan of the Institute, they're too snobby for my tastes and want to wage war for no reason. Now im at the part where they're pretty much forcing me to kill the Railroad leader and I dont really want to do it. I didnt do any missions with the Railroad but they dont bother me either even if they are a little hippyish.
Also went to Vault 81 finally and did a quest there that got me Curie. Im going to let her tag along for a little bit because I like her french accent. I might also go through some of my Misc quests and some of the Nick Valentine tapes. I've still only explored a fraction of the game, despite how small the map is its insane how much they've crammed in to it.

I would have liked it if there was an achievement for getting all of the companions again. I wanted to but there was no real benefit to me, so I didn't get a couple of them.

Finally beat the game. I really dragged my heels for the last couple missions.

I sided with the Institute even though it pained me to wipe out the Railroad. The BoS fight was fun though but I think I missed a bunch of stuff on that ship in terms of items before blowing it up. I also never got to fight Elder Maxim. I did the end fight twice and one time I saw him spawn on a roof top but he fell off and got stuck behind a door. The second time I just never saw him and didnt want to try a 3rd time to kill and loot him. I'm glad they let you continue other missions after the main story is finished, plus I still have a TON of locations to discover. If I could play through again I might side with the Brotherhood just because I like all the cool stuff they have.

I've played the game a bit more since beating it, I didn't think i would but I actually kinda enjoy it. I don't feel the pressure of having to do quests or worry about exploring a location that might come up in a later story quest essentially ruining any surprise to the environment during the quest. I'm actually having fun just running around buildings and collecting as much junk as possible which also means im putting more time into settlements now and not feeling guilty about it.
I think i'll get the DLC but not for a while .

Bethesda's biggest strength is world building, so just exploring is fun.

The DLC is OK if nothing incredible. I'd perhaps wait for a sale but it is worth playing if you want more Fallout 4. Far Harbour is definitely atmospheric and a solid expansion.

There are now more Fallout 4 mods than Fallout 3 mods on Nexus. Neat.
