Rumors are running around the internet today saying Sega is getting ready to announce a Dreamcast 2. Specifically a Console/PC hybrid. Kinda makes me think of the Steam Machine which as I understand isnt doing too well.

And the countdown page really doesnt leave a lot of guesses that are anything other than some form of hardware "the dream" "powerful" "next-gen". These are some odd words to describe software. I'm also wondering what this would mean for Sega games appearing on other consoles right now.

I loved the original Dreamcast, I remember my friends and I stayed up till 4am one night playing just the Power Stone Demo where we had 2 characters and one map. And I was probably the only person on the planet that got really into the VMU's.

Hope it's true... hopefully they do a better job at the PC/Console hybrid idea than Valve, if that is what they're planning.

I dont know what they would have to do to be better than Valve. The PC/Console hybrid is good on paper but I'm not sure why it hasnt sold well. Maybe just poor marketing...I know anyone else would have put commercials out for a new system, Valve seems to have relied on just word of mouth and "updates" on Steam.

So Sega hasn't been working on a Dreamcast sequel. "Project Dream" is just a group of people working on pitching a Dreamcast 2 idea or at least an HD Dreamcast to Sega and are hoping to get support through crowd-funding.

Well damn, that whole article I posted was kinda misleading. If they get a pitch to work it would be a miracle, I just cant see it working.

I don't remember the details, but didn't that get drowned by Nintendo, Playstation and the emergence of XBox? I always like the Sega consoles. Especially Genesis. But I got the PS2 and Xbox at the time and didn't have funds for the Dreamcast. I loved the look though. And always wanted one. No real games were around for it that had my attention. The only exclusive I even knew of was Sonic. I wouldn't mind seeing a Dreamcast 2. But honestly, breaking in right now, unless they have serious exclusives, is going to cause problems. Their best bet is hoping the rumors that Scorpio is Microsoft's last console is true, and break in then as a main competitor to Sony, since Nintendo is more or less a niche at this point.

The Dreamcast came out about a year before the PS2. Its problem was that it was less powerful than the PS2, Gamecube and Xbox. Plus the PS2 had a DVD player, plus other issues that all lined up at the time that caused its downfall.
Its sad because I like the games are Dreamcast more than anything ive played on PS2. Power Stone and Shenmue were two other really great Dreamcast exclusives.

I've heard nothing but good about the Shenmue series. I've never played it.

Some people complained that Shenmue was boring or that it did a lot of things ok but nothing well. I dont know how its aged but I loved the game. It was one of the first free-roam games. It also had things to collect, you could buy old Sega games like Space Harrier and play them on your in game Sega Saturn at home. So you got the full game within your game.

They are awesome, ahead of their times, but not for everyone

The Yakuza games are like the successors to the Shenmue series and more action based
