Unless you've been living under a rock you would know the new Battlefield game, Battlefield 1 is due in less than a month.

The beta was out last month for about a week and a new single player trailer was released yesterday.

Who played it, what did you think, what do you expect from the new game?

Of any series out there i'm probably a bigger Battlefield fan than I am of any other game series. I've been playing since BF1942 on the PC (having skipped Vietnam, 2142 and 3). Battlefield 2 is still one of my all time favorite games and was at a time when I was apart of a very close group of players from both the US and UK.
For the past year i've been playing BF4 and despite some differences to BF2 that even still feel kinda odd I've come to love the game though not quite as much.

Naturally I was excited for the next Battlefield game to see what time period it would be, and what multiplayer changes they would make. When they announced the next BF game would take place during WW1 and I was pretty excited for that setting. I thought with the prominence of bolt-action rifles during that war it would slow down the pace of the fighting a little, something I was interested to see how it would turn out.

Then they did the alpha live stream multiplayer, and the released the public beta and it was disappointing to see how common sub machine rifles and full auto machine guns were. They existed in WW1 but they weren't common place by any means. I get its a game and it has to be fun, but they could have just as easily made this a WW2 game and you wouldn't know the difference. The inclusion of all these automatic weapons I think cheapens the WW1 setting and turns it into something out of an alternate reality. Having played the beta it also felt a little off to me. There was something about it that just didn't feel enough like a Battlefield game, it was as if they combined the new Star Wars Battlefront with parts of the Battlefield series. The weapons somehow feel really inaccurate, fallen teammates no longer have indicators to say they need a revive essentially making medics useless because its near impossible to tell where the dead are unless you're on top of them, sniper rifles are brutal, Rush mode has major balance issues, plus other things that just weren't right.

Still the game wasn't bad and I had fun playing it, especially flying bi-planes and running around on horses. Good lord that's fun! And the graphics and sound are the best out right now. Absolutely stunning. I'll likely get it, but not right away and it definitely wont be the $130 Ultimate edition. $130 for a game is ludicrous and no one should pay that.

Does this single player trailer remind you of a Stephen Spielberg movie? DICE has never had good single player games, but I do like how this one seems to be going for less of a macho butt-rock COD style feel and more of a dramatic large scale war movie.

I haven't played any other game since Overwatch launched. I completely missed the BF1 open beta. Saw plenty of footage. I've been hearing complaints that it's basically "Battlefront set in WWI" because of the lack of accuracy increase when ADS. People will bitch about anything... and then still buy it.

I on the other hand will not be suckered in again, and will be waiting until people have had a chance to play the full version. For me, BF4 is to the Battlefield series, what MW3 was to the Call of Duty series. I didn't touch Hardline and will only touch this if audience reception is positive.

I did really like the single player trailer though. Looks like they're going to give us characters to care about instead of angry soldiers barking orders at you.

Played the beta. Enjoyed it enough, and the aesthetic certainly worked very well.

That said, I'm not a big enough BF player to really warrant a purchase. I downloaded the BF4 beta as well but have never actually played the final game. Perhaps if the single player really does improve I may reconsider, but the trailer certainly doesn't do enough to convince and I'd likely wait for a review.

In a way it does feel very similar to Battlefront, they've definitely used the same technology and character models but whats ADS?

I dont know what this means.

    Aiming down the sights.

It means, it ruined my willingness to play games from the franchise. My opinion has been soured by a lackluster overall experience. MW3 killed what remaining hope I had in the franchise, and BF4 killed my hope that EA/Dice would release a game that isn't broken or devoid of content at launch in favor of beating the competition to the punch or making sure their game was released by the holiday season in order to make the most amount of money as possible.

CoD Advanced Warfare was pretty good and the new one does look interesting. Although they can't win, since everyone is complaining that it's too different.

I'd argue BF4 has a TON of content. When you factor in the gameplay with vehicles it has twice as much stuff as any MW game. I didnt buy the game at launch but in the time i've played it the game is far from broken. The only complaints i've heard about BF4 was that its netcode at launch was bad but thats long since been fixed.
