We now know what the new Battlefield game will be like... it'll be a WWI shooter.

People have been pining for a trip back into history whether it be WWII again, the Civil War, or WWI. EA struck first. CoD when full Sci-Fi with Call of Duty Infinite Warfare, EA went a hundred years back to WWI.

I'll say this, should be interesting to fly those classic WWI airplanes.

It's a shame it was leaked, I'd have liked the surprise.

Personally, I wasn't keen on a WWII game so I'm quite interested they've gone for something different. I skipped 4 but this might draw me back in.

What do you mean, leaked? I haven't heard shit about the game except when they announced there was going to be a live event to reveal the game and then released the trailer.

It was only a few hours before the reveal, but by the time I had got home from work Eurogamer had the info as a headline. First the Xbox store accidentally showed some artwork prematurely, then a retail ad leaked the name, and then another retail ad leaked the pre-order DLC which confirmed WWI setting.

Not a big deal by any means, but it does seem as though pretty much every major announcement these days is always spoiled to a degree. Even The Last Guardian was spoiled. I do like finding things out with a big fancy trailer.

Ive been a huge fan of the Battlefield series ever since the first one 1942, but I'm also more of a purist and I could have done without all the spin-offs when they started making console games, like Bad company. I have mixed feelings about Battlefield 1 though. I think a WW1 setting is interesting and vastly under explored in games, but I'm still not convinced it'll work well for Battlefield style game play of frantic and chaotic fighting. I understand WW1 had some automatic weapons, but for the large part the tanks were difficult to use, and bolt action rifles were the majority of the guns used. The style of bolt-action guns just right away makes the gameplay slower I would think.

They've also said that there are now vehicle specific classes so if you want to fly you have to spawn as a pilot or to drink a tank you have to spawn as a tank driver. No longer can anyone run up to a vehicle and jump in which drastically changes the gameplay. So im wondering if you'll be stuck in a tank or plane until youre blown up or if you're still able to jump out of plane and cap a flag or get behind enemy lines.

Still excited, just not completely sold. I have hope though.

I got the game a little over a week ago because it was on sale for Black Friday. I cant say im in love with it, but its not bad either. Its slowly grown on me and I can hold out hope that after a few more updates the game can only get better. Except medics suck now, no one ever revives anymore and I dont know why.

There are some issues with it; such as the goofy ass way they do unlocks where you only unlock XP boosts or lame skins for your gun; and a broken spawn system where its not uncommon to spawn into a shower of bombs or bullets, or in the middle of a field where every sniper on the map can see you. In a way its too similar to Star Wars Battlefront (which is a big disappointment of a game).
This is superficial, but I cant seem to get over how unbelievable the game is with the amount of automatic and sub-machine guns in a WW1 setting. I know its a Battlefield game but it just really bothers me there isnt more reliance on bolt-actions, its like a mistakenly named WW2 game. The game feels like they could have left everything exactly as it is and called it Battlefield 1944 and it would make more sense, the only thing making it a WW1 game is the skins and what they call everything.

Believe it or not though it is a good game despite its flaws. Its has the over the top chaotic action, close calls, intense battles, AMAZING sound design, and an emphasis on teamwork, maybe even more so now than in the past. Flying is way fun now too with the use of bi-planes, it reminds me of the days of BF1942 with prop planes and the dogfights you could get into. It has me looking for a good controller for my PC so I can better fly. I also like how snipers arent so noticeable now and unless your rifle has a 6x scope or higher you dont get that glint to expose your position. If you really love BF its worth a purchase of the standard version, if you're hesitant about it I say wait til its on sale and then get it. I think its a hard game to hate and if you're new to the series you'll probably love it. If you've played the other games in the series you might be a little more critical but with some patience and faith it will become something worth playing.
